General Green Building Guides and Online Resources

Technical Information on Home Building from the NAHB Research Center  resource for technical information on building products, materials, new technologies, business management, and housing systems.

Green Building Advisor online resource providing useful, accurate, and complete information about designing, building, and remodeling energy-efficient, sustainable, and healthy homes. provides objective, high-quality information about commercial and residential buildings. This resource combines building physics, systems design concepts, and an awareness of sustainability to promote the design and construction of buildings that are more durable, healthier, more sustainable and more economical than most buildings built today.

Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) is a global leader in independent certification and verification of environmental, sustainability, stewardship, food quality, food safety and food purity claims.

Green Specifications for Products & Materials

Green Approved Products sponsored by the NAHB Research Center

GreenSpec Directory  lists over 2,200 environmentally preferable products selected by editors at BuildingGreen, LLC.

GreenFormat is a web-based CSI format that allows manufacturers to accurately report the sustainability properties of their products. It provides designers, constructors and building operators with basic information to help meet ‘green’ requirements.

Federal Green Construction Guide for Specifiers Addressing the need for a comprehensive guide for procuring green building products and construction services within the Federal government, EPA has partnered with the Federal Environmental Executive and the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG) to develop this guide for Specifiers

Sustainable Design Resource Guide Put out by the Denver AIA Committee on the Environment, this is a great place to start looking for regional building materials

California Sustainable Building Green Project Specifications Briefly explains the CSI MasterFormat™ and identify several areas to incorporate environmental specifications into a project. It will also outline the CSI SectionFormat™ with a sample environmental specification, describe model specifications in general and provide links to some example environmental specifications
