Elizabeth Smith, Principal, Fanas Architecture

Elizabeth Smith graduated from the University of Colorado in 1990 with a B.E.N.V.D. degree and has been working in the architectural field since. Her experience includes educational, resort, residential and commercial projects in the Boulder area as well in Vail and the southwest corner of the state. She is currently a principal with the firm; Fanas Architecture here in Boulder where she has been employed since 2006. Fanas Architecture is a small architectural firm committed to sustainable practices and educating our clients on green options, materials and systems and dedicated to improving the quality and consciousness of the community as a whole.

Experience: Design, documentation and full project management for a wide range of architectural projects; writing design guidelines (Beaver Creek, Bachelors' Gulch, Idaho, Deadwood S.D.) Goals: Get more involved in the community with groups such as CGBG that educate and train building professionals

Lisa Fletcher, Principal, Essenza Architecture

Lisa Fletcher is a licensed architect and founding principal of Essenza Architecture. For the past six years her firm has designed residential and commercial projects locally and internationally, striving to make each project as sustainable as possible. She loves getting into the details of energy efficiency. And she pours her efforts into creating comfortable and efficient designs, allowing people to build only as much as they need, saving both financial and natural resources. Having been a member of the Guild since the year it was formed, Lisa has witnessed the Guild’s tremendous growth. She has worked on the Professional Development committee in recent years and now would like to contribute more time and energy to supporting the mission of the Guild by serving on the Board of Directors. Lisa has lived in Colorado for thirty years and in the Boulder area for the last fourteen. She is a LEED AP (BD+C) accredited professional, with a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Colorado and a B.S. degree from Arizona State University.

I want to help the Guild expand its reach around the state. One challenge is some areas outside of Boulder without the same critical mass of green building professionals. On the other hand, those are exactly the people that most need the Guild’s support and where we can have a tremendous impact

Mellisa Thornton, Owner, LOHAS Realty

Mellisa has been serving the needs of the public within the real estate industry since 2000 offering education, tools and networks to buy, sell, remodel more sustainably. She also served on the Municipal advisory board (Town of Superior); Community Board of Directors (Saddlebrooke);  secured funding for BVSD  through CDOT and SRTS for alternative transportation programs and was on the Board of Directors for Jeff Tuckers entity and Greenworks2020.

It is my goal to serve a higher purpose and contribute in a positive way to further the shared common mission statement of the Colorado Green Builders Guild by offering my time, experiences and services to fulfill the expectations set forth by the Guild and share ideas with the board to grow the vision in a sustainable manner.

Scott Simkus, Development Planner, Boulder County Housing Authority

Scott has dedicated his career to public service for the past 23 years with a special focus on providing high quality, energy efficient affordable housing to those in greatest need. Projects that Scott has worked on while serving as a development planner with Boulder County have earned three Pinnacle Awards (Boulder County's highest honor in Public Service), two AIA awards, Governors Award, DRCOG award and numerous National Association of Counties Awards for excellence in public service. Scott's innovative housing design work in the past reflects a true champion of change for areas in energy efficiency and renewable energy. In 2012 the Department of Energy published some of his work with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Scott believes that strong government reflects leadership in innovation, transparency, and accountability.

I believe that the best of the Colorado Green Building Guild has yet to come as there are incredible opportunities in the near future to collaborate with regional governments across the State of Colorado. I feel my unique experience in government will facilitate future success of the Guild.

Todd Collins, Owner, A&E Building Systems

I believe every building should be energy efficient. The general approach to the environment and our fuel sources has been and continues to be reckless. Over 40% of our energy use is in our buildings. Of that, the single largest component of it is used for heating and cooling. We must do more to conserve while reducing our impact on the environment. I am fully behind the objectives of the Guild and believe that its mission is important to the future of our children. My company supplies products necessary to achieve energy efficiency with our existing and future building stock. I am committed to the green building goals of the Guild and hope to help further the mission and objectives of the Guild as a board member.

My background includes an MBA with majors in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. My more immediate background includes sales and marketing. With these skill-sets and experience, I believe I can help the guild achieve critical revenue goals for continuing Guild operations into the future.
