2016 Boulder+ Green Home Tour - A Q&A with Committee Member Ambra Sutherlin
Share |

The Home Tour was one of the best first days of fall in Boulder. The weather complimented a fantastic day for the tour and greatly added to its success! We had a great outcome with over 300 attendees. We caught up with committee chair Ambra Sutherlin to learn more about the BGHT's success, goals, and highlights.

This year the Home Tour expanded to neighboring towns outside of Boulder. Tell us a little about that.

During the inaugural year in 2015, the Home Tour featured eleven total projects in Boulder. There were eight single family homes, two multi-family projects and one tiny home. This year the Home Tour included homes in Boulder, Lafayette and Louisville. We featured ten projects with six single family homes, three multi-family projects, and one shipping container home.

What was the general response from people who attended or hosted a home on the Home Tour?

Everyone enjoyed the tour and said that they got a lot of good ideas and learned more about green building and energy efficiency. Home hosts had a great time as well. Many commented on how nice it was to connect with people as they came through the homes. We had some awesome hosts this year.

What are the goals for next year’s Home Tour?

We will most likely keep the Home Tour in Boulder, Louisville and Lafayette next year. In the future we’d like to expand the Home Tour to include other neighboring areas and have a goal of including Fort Collins in a couple of years. We are also looking at ways in which the Home Tour can tie into other events that take place in and around Boulder. Month of Modern is an event held in October and may be a way for us to increase exposure for those who want to learn more about green building and design trends.

Boulder Weekly wrote a great piece on the Home Tour, interviewing one of your committee members about the event and what goes into putting together such a fantastic tour. Where can we read this article?

Each year attendees vote for the People’s Choice Award, acknowledging their favorite home on the tour. Who was this year’s winner and tell us a bit about the home.

The People's Choice Award was awarded to the Fairchild Harris Home by fuentesdesign. This house was remodeled in 2016. This remodel and addition to an existing single story home combine advanced green building technologies with clean and minimal open floor plan efficiencies for healthy and functional living. The clients requested a three bedroom two bathroom, second floor addition. The addition is clad in rain screened local wood siding above a white stucco cube enclosing the existing first floor.

How was the after-party?

The after-party was held at the Roadhouse Boulder Depot in the rapidly developing Boulder Junction area of town. The after-party included the People's Choice Award and an Achievement Award given to Ann Livingston, the current CGBG Board president of the Colorado Green Building Guild. A number of speeches were given and a raffle was held at the end of the event. Raffle times were generously donated by Flatirons Running, Roadhouse Boulder Depot, Radiance Power Yoga, CGBG, and the Golden Solar Tour.
