Exterior Insulation and Window Integration in Commercial Buildings-Fort Collins-AIA and BPI CEUs

This two-part workshop takes a close look at proper application of rigid exterior building insulation and the latest in advanced window technology. Rigid exterior building insulation can be one of the most effective methods of insuring a robust thermal building enclosure. Windows and their frames are the critical link in high-performing building envelope systems. This technology is growing by leaps and bounds. **This course has been approved by AIA and BPI for CEU credits.

This two-part workshop takes a close look at proper application of rigid exterior building insulation and the latest in advanced window technology.

• Rigid exterior building insulation can be one of the most effective methods of insuring a robust thermal building enclosure.  However, the building industry is still slow to adopt this technology due to uncertainty about attachment methods, integration with the air barrier system, and most notably how to best attach cladding systems.

Please join Steve Dawson with DOW Building Solutions as he explores these and other aspects of exterior insulation systems. Steve Dawson is a Building Envelope Specialist covering Colorado and Wyoming for Dow Chemical in the Building Solutions Division.  He is an active member of the AIA Colorado chapter, Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Denver Chapter and is currently the president of the Rocky Mountain Producer’s Council.

Steve has a background in building insulation systems going back 1993 and includes work with Johns Manville, AZEK Building Products, and Cosella-Dörken Products, prior to joining DOW Chemical in 2010.

• Windows and their frames are the critical link in high-performing building envelope systems. This technology is growing by leaps and bounds.  High-performance window, storefront and curtainwall systems are available that far exceed the thermal performance of conventional systems, leading to improved comfort, energy performance, and sound attenuation.

Please join Robert Clarke, an independent window consultant, of Robert Clarke Associates to learn all there is to know about high performance window systems.  Robert is a leading international expert in the application of architectural glass technology to sustainable design. Drawing on Princeton Engineering and Stanford Business degrees, he has worked for more than three decades at the forefront of super insulating curtainwall, storefront and window engineering. Robert's research and recommendations empower novel designs involving high-percentage glass skins, net zero energy goals, integral PV, dynamic glazing, and HVAC innovation.

Robert initiated and oversaw the on-site remanufacture and installation of over 13,000 insulating-glass units on the Empire State Building in New York City. Other complex projects include the National Gallery of Art, San Jose Convention Center, Art Institute of Chicago, and recently completed LEED Platinum Packard Foundation in Los Altos, California.
