A New City of Boulder Existing Commercial Building Pilot Program: Benchmarking Energy Efficiency

Benchmarking or rating your commercial building’s energy performance is a great way to identify energy and money saving opportunities. Find out how benchmarking with EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, a free on-line energy management tool, will provide useful information to increase your, or your client’s, building’s energy performance.

Elizabeth Vasatka, from Boulder’s Local Environmental Action Division (LEAD) will provide an overview of the city’s evolving interest in helping commercial property owners move toward greater energy efficiency and will introduce a new voluntary benchmarking pilot program.

EPA Energy Star Manager, Leslie Cook, will conduct a live webinar demonstration on how to use Portfolio Manager and the benefits of using it.

Andria Lewis, Owner of Boulder Creek Quality Inn and Dana J. Sailer-Mielke, General Manager and will talk about benchmarking this property and achieving Energy Star Certification.

Who Should Attend:  Commercial property owners, managers and brokers; contractors who are focused on measuring and managing energy use on commercial building. 

Speakers:
Elizabeth Vasatka
, LEAD Business Sustainability Coordinator. Elizabeth has worked for local government in Boulder County for over 15 years. She is one of the founders of the Boulder Green Building Guild and also sat on the Board of Directors for the USGBC Colorado Chapter. Elizabeth was a key staff member on the design and implementation of the city’s revised and new green building codes.

Leslie Cook is the U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR Program Manager for the Public Sector. She works with states and local governments as they integrate ENERGY STAR tools and resources into energy efficiency programs, including EPA's Portfolio Manager, a benchmarking tool used to assess building energy and water performance, calculate greenhouse gas emissions and reductions, and prioritize energy efficiency investments.  Leslie joined ENERGY STAR in 2008, and prior to that she participated with the EPA Green Building Workgroup as a National Environmental Management Studies Fellow.

Andria Lewis, is an extremely hands-on owner of the Boulder Creek Quality Inn & Suites. She, along with her husband Burt Lewis, purchased the property in 1999 and they have since been committed to consistently investing in their property with renovation and upgrades, including green initiatives. Together they are devoted to reducing the hotel’s environmental impact and carbon footprint.

Dana J. Sailer-Mielke, has been the proud General Manager of the award-winning Boulder Creek Quality Inn & Suites for the past eight years. Her goal to increase and improve the properties green practices began in 2008 and has since developed into a passion to which she is extremely dedicated. She is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s Energy Star Portfolio manager account
