The 2016 Boulder Green Home Tour Expands to Include Lafayette and Louisville
Share |

Next month the Boulder Green Home Tour will return for a second round on September 24, from 10am to 6pm, this time featuring homes in neighboring Louisville and Lafayette in addition to Boulder. The tour allows attendees to walk through some of the most innovative green building projects in Boulder County. It also promotes collaboration among the building professionals within the community.

The tour has partnered with Flatirons Habitat for Humanity and will donate 10% of all proceeds to their local projects.

Selected homes offer the latest innovative designs and breakthrough technology in green building in the areas of energy efficiency, passive house design, daylighting, solar, geo-thermal, non-toxic interior finishes, recycled and reused materials, xeriscaping and more.

The tour’s chairwoman, Ambra Sutherlin, describes how the tour “brings a collaborative exchange of ideas on Green Building in our community and awareness of green building technology and standards.”

During its inaugural year in 2015, the tour showed ten projects total-- eight single family homes, two multi-family projects, and one tiny home. The self-paced tour had a strong turnout with 450-plus people. Included on the tour was the 2015 People’s Choice Award, Duhaime Phillips House, designed by architect Jamie Logan and located in the historic Mapleton Hill neighborhood. The design integrates elegant contemporary style with leading edge green technology.

The Duhaime Phillips House, winner of the 2015 People’s Choice Award and designed by architect Jamie Logan. The home, located in the historic Mapleton Hill neighborhood, includes a charming street elevation respectful of the historic neighborhood, a stunning open interior living space, a living room with west windows facing a beautiful deep ravine, and a green porch that circles the living room alongside extensive ground covers. The house terraces down the backyard ravine with large stone planters growing bountiful fruits and vegetables. Other owner inspired designs in the interior feature a sculptured plaster wall at the stairwell and special colored led lighting.

This year there will be 10 privately owned homes on the self-guided tour again, with three multi-family projects, four custom homes, one remodel, and two tiny homes. In Boulder, the featured homes are all centrally located and can be accessed by bike.

The tour is Saturday, September 24, 2016, 10am to 6pm rain or shine. Advanced tickets are $15.
