Gary Goodell, building official for unincorporated Boulder County, will discuss the county’s latest "above code” energy, green building and sustainability building code amendments, including the county’s goals, comparing the 2009 code adoptions to the latest 2012 International Codes, and the adoptions and amendments proposed to be heard by the Board of County Commissioners on September 27. The presentation will include the county’s BuildSmart residential program, amendments to the 2012 IECC and the potential for adoption of the new International Green Construction Code (IGCC).
The City of Boulder is evaluating updates to the IPMC, the Green Points Green Building program for new construction, SmartRegs energy efficiency requirements and ongoing quality assurance for rental license inspections. The evaluation of potential changes will include continued conversations with stakeholders in the community, and will be integrated into the upcoming code update process. City staff will give an update on this evaluation process and expected timeline. Officials from the City of Longmont will also be available to present code related updates. Megan Cuzzolino works in the City of Boulder’s Local Environmental Action Division, helping Boulder homeowners reduce their energy use and waste production. As a Residential Sustainability Specialist, Megan focuses on SmartRegs, a rental housing policy that requires all rentals in Boulder to meet an energy efficient standard. Megan comes from a background in residential development, specifically in the affordable housing realm, where she implemented green building techniques and managed related certification programs for new construction and retrofits. She is a LEED AP and holds a B.S. in Geographic Science with a concentration in Environmental Studies from James Madison University.
