Chris and Kyle are Wildfire Mitigation Specialists who work for the Boulder County Land Use Department. The role of the Wildfire Mitigation Specialist is to assure that new homes, additions, and decks being built in the foothills and mountains of unincorporated Boulder County establish defensible space around these structures and that ignition resistant materials are utilized during construction.

The Wildfire Mitigation Specialists also serve on the Development Review Team to provide referrals on site location, defensible space, ignition resistant materials, emergency water supply requirements, and emergency vehicle clearance regarding all construction that triggers a planning process in the foothills and mountains of unincorporated Boulder County.

Chris and Kyle also help to oversee the voluntary wildfire mitigation program, Wildfire Partners. This program concentrates on identifying vulnerabilities to existing homes and helps to establish defensible space around these homes. The program has a team of Wildfire Mitigation Specialists, Forestry Contractors, Phone Advisors, and Boulder County Staff. The program offers a variety of benefits such as helping homeowners with insurance needs, helping with resale of homes, and making the home more defensible during a wildfire event by creating a safer environment for firefighters to perform suppression efforts.
