This brownbag workshop will present an overview of the significant changes to the Boulder County Building Codes, and the results of the adoption process for the 2015 I-Codes. This will be part one of two workshops on the topic. 

 

4 Learning Objectives:

 

1.       At the end of the course participants will understand the overall structure and major changes of the 2015 I-Codes.

2.       At the end of the course participants will be able to identify the local amendments to the 2015 I-Codes, and where they can find additional information and details of these amendments.   

3.       At the end of the course participants will understand the particulars of the Boulder County BuildSmart Program and how different projects will need to demonstrate compliance.

4.       At the end of the course participants will be able to identify what additional third party certifications might be needed for larger projects.

Speaker Bio:

Ron Flax, RESNET, LEED AP, is the Building Sustainability Examiner for Boulder County where he manages the green building and energy initiatives of the Land Use Department. Previously he worked for Ron Flax Consulting, a Building Science based firm focused on improving our health and our environment.  Prior to this, Ron worked as a Project Manager for a local award winning design-build firm.  Ron has been a member of the sustainable building community for the past 18 years and has extensive hands-on experience in both design and construction, including the record setting deep energy retrofit of his South Boulder home.  He was the 2011 recipient of the Colorado Green Building Guild Leadership Award, the 2012 Conservationist of the Year from the Center for Resource Conservation, and in 2014 was recognized by the North Colorado Chapter of the AIA for Contribution to the Built Environment.   Ron frequently teaches on a wide range of green building and sustainability topics including energy, water, indoor air quality, and resource conservation. rflax@bouldercounty.org
