This facilitated forum-style interactive discussion will begin with an opportunity to hear and share "war" stories about bad clients (free beer for the best story), and then work in small groups to collaboratively discover:

-The Top 10 Traits to Look for in a Good Client

-The Top 10 Red-flags of a Bad Client

-How to Get and Keep Clients on the Good Path (both general and specific best practices)

-How to Course Correct and Mitigate Damage if Things Go Badly

Last, we will conclude by sharing our insights with the larger group. The event will be facilitated by Sandra Weeks of Blue Spruce Construction and Scott Rodwin of Rodwin Architecture & Skycastle Construction.

Scott Rodwin is the President of Rodwin Architecture and Skycastle Construction. He has 25 years of design and building experience. Scott co-taught the Green Building 101 class for BGBG and Boulder for five years, and for the last four has taught “Understanding the Rules for Building in Boulder” for the Boulder Area Realtor Association.  Scott also teaches Green Building at Naropa University and at the Tara Waldorf School. He is a “Planet Expert,” was the Managing Editor of the AIA’s Sustainable Design Resource Guide, and is a widely published author on sustainable design. Scott was the AIA’s 2006 Young Architect of the Year for the U.S. Western Mountain Region, was a 2012 Boulder County Business Report EcoHero, and has been recognized with over 20 green architecture awards. Scott graduated from Cornell University in 1991. Scott would use his psychic powers to discern good clients from bad ones, but since he has no such powers, he’s hoping to figure it out at this workshop.

Sandra Weeks, owner/president of Blue Spruce Design and Construction, has worked in construction for almost 30 years. Sandra has done everything from working in cabinet shops and estimating million dollar projects to running one of the most competitive general contracting companies in Boulder County. In 1997 she started Blue Spruce Design and Construction and has been named one of the Top Women Owned Businesses in Colorado, among  the Top 25 Boulder County General Contractors, and among the Top 250 Private Companies in the State of Colorado. She served two terms as President of the Colorado Green Building Guild and a Juror in 2011 for the REAL awards. She is a founding member of Women Building Boulder, is on the Board and current Past-President for the Boulder YWCA. She is currently involved with Women Build for Habitat for Humanity.
