Radiant Cooling for Residential and Commercial Application..Yes, we said COOLING!

Radiant Cooling is an excellent strategy for cooling buildings in Colorado due to our moderate dry climate, low latent loads, and the inherent efficiency of radiant comfort systems. Presentation Overview: design considerations and installation concepts, potential energy savings, system outputs, end user comfort in different applications, technical specifications, design capabilities, and current radiant heating and cooling installations, applications, and opportunities.

Due to water's superior ability to store and transport energy when compared to air, hydronic radiant systems effectively heat and cool occupants by radiative heat transfer with lower pump energy than that used by fans circulating conditioned air in a building. Lower operating costs, the ability to shift peak cooling loads, and existing IECC and LEED high performance building standards are some of the reasons Radiant Cooling is an excellent opportunity to save energy, increase occupant comfort, and offer cutting-edge building system solutions to Colorado end users.

Presentation Overview: design considerations and installation concepts, potential energy savings, system outputs, end user comfort in different applications, technical specifications, design capabilities, and current Radiant Heating & Cooling installations, applications, and opportunities.

We will also present two case studies:

Wal Mart HE.5 Building, one of Wal Mart’s  designated "High Efficiency” buildings.  Learn how Radiant Cooling helped Wal Mart achieve their  45% energy savings goal with this Las Vegas, NV shopping center.

The Research Support Facility (RSF), one of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's newest sustainable green buildings. Learn about the integrated design methods used in the RSF and how radiant heating and cooling is used to condition the space and help meet the 35 kBtu/ft2/year energy goal for the building.

Speakers:

Rois Langner, Mechanical Engineer, Commercial Buildings Research Group at NREL. Rois has been with NREL since the beginning of 2010. Her research efforts have focused on building energy efficiency projects that utilize EnergyPlus software to analyze and optimize building design and performance for military and large commercial retail buildings. She has also worked with organizations to develop, implement, and maintain energy management policies and systems for continual energy improvement, and more recently is working to support the small commercial building sector in improving building performance.

Bo DeAngelo is a Radiant designer & sales manager for Viega, LLC covering the Colorado region.  He has 20 years of experience in designing, specifying, and installing radiant comfort systems. Viega, LLC is the global leader in fitting systems, specializing in cold metal press technology in piping systems, energy efficient radiant comfort systems, and integrated building systems.
