CEU's for this course:

New technologies are critical to building a sustainable and resilient future!

In this BrownBag we focus on new technologies that are hitting the market and are designed to bring a greater level of efficiency to our buildings!

We will explore three technologies and there will be lots of time for lively discussion about what new products YOU've found and are using!

RavenBrick's Raven Window
RavenBrick is a material science company that makes smart building materials. RavenBrick has commercialized RavenWindow, the worlds most energy efficient dynamic window technology. It saves up to 30% on heating and cooling year round, without using electricity or hard-wired control systems.  Besides reducing energy consumption and costs, RavenWindow is easy-to-install, can be retrofitted to fit existing frames and improves the temperate and light-glare comfort for people inside the building. RavenBrick has also invented RavenSkin, a thermal battery wall product.

BioPCM,  Phase Change Solution.
BioPCM™ absorbs and releases heat using bio-based phase change materials that melt and solidify at room temperature. Unlike other PCM products derived from crude oil refining, BioPCM™ is derived from abundant bio-based materials. When installed in ceiling and wall panels the product works day and night to stabilize indoor temperatures. This elegant approach to saving energy provides greater comfort for building occupants and moreefficient heating systems for architects and designers. Sustainable and cost effective, BioPCM™ provides the most cost effective and simple approach for integrating phase change materials into buildings.

This abbreviated presentation will discuss how phase change works: Case studies; Our key partners: and some referenced projects.

Coolerado Corporation- Air Conditioning Systems
Coolerado Corporation manufactures and markets innovative air conditioning systems for commercial, government, and military use. Based on our proprietary, patented, and proven technology our products use as little as 10% of the energy required by the most efficient conventional systems. Instead of using chemical refrigerants and compressors to cool recycled interior air, we use a new, patented process that runs fresh outside air through air filters and then a heat mass exchanger (HMX). This unique process delivers more comfortable, breathable air using one-tenth of the energy of typical air conditioners. Even Dad would be impressed.Click here to learn more about how Coolerado’s patented technology works.

Wil McCarthy – Chief Technology Officer & Co-Founder of RavenBrick

Wil McCarthy is an acclaimed scientist and researcher whose expertise at RavenBrick includes: Quantum Dots, Thermoreflectives, Optics, Metamaterials, Nanolithography, Nanometrology and Scanning Probe Microscopy, Software Engineering, Engineering Mathematics, Analysis and Simulation, Technical and Scientific Writing, amongst other scientific disciplines.  Wil is instrumental in leading RavenBrick’s research, design, engineering, and production departments.  Prior to co-founding RavenBrick, Wil co-founded Programmable Matter Corporation (PMC), the predecessor to RavenBrick, with Dr. Rich Powers.  Wil and Rich were responsible for the development of the core intellectual property which RavenBrick employs today.  Wil was also responsible for the operations of PMC, including intellectual property development (patent/trademark/copyright), business development, engineering analysis and communications.  Prior to PMC, Wil was the Senior Research and Development Engineer at Omnitech Robotics, where he served as the technical liaison between Software, Electrical, Mechanical, and Manufacturing/Test Engineering groups for the design of Mark IV Standardized Robotic System.

Chris Martin Business Development Phase Change Technology

Chris Martin earned his  Bachelor of Science degree in  Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado in 1987. He also earned an Associate Degree in Solar Energy Engineering;  He is a licensed professional  Mechanical Engineer in the State of Colorado - #  21742

Chris has been in the energy business for over 30 years.    He discovered Phase Change Energy in fall of 2011, In January 2012  and decided to assist the company on a full time basis bringing this product to the public.  His primary responsibility is to develop key business relationships throughout the United States. He also assist in technical design and building science issues as it relates to incorporation of Phase Change Materials into structures.
